A CLC Roofing Client's New Wood Shake Roof
An attractive and unique roof can add value to your home’s drive up appeal. That is one of key reasons that consumers consider wood shake shingles for their roof. However, it is important that you understand the pros and cons of using wood shake when planning your roof purchase.
The pros of Wood Shake Shingles are listed below:
- Unique and Attractive: Because wood varies in color and thickness, there are a variety of ways that your roof can stand out with wood shakes. Depending on the pattern used on the roof and thickness of shingles, a wood shake roof can be one of the most unique features of your home.
- Energy Efficient: Wood shingles allow a house to breathe by allowing air circulation beneath the shingles while still providing proper insulation. A properly installed wood shake roof should allow air flow in and out of the house letting fresh air in and toxins out while keeping your energy bills low.
- Eco-Friendly: Wood shakes are biodegradable and when the time comes to replace shingles or the roof, you can rest assured that you aren’t filling landfills with roofing materials that will sit there for years. In addition, there are recyclable shingles on the market giving you additional options in making a “green choice.”
- Long Lasting: With proper maintenance, your wood shake roof should last many years. Frequent roof checks are an important part of this maintenance and a service that CLC Roofing is happy to provide.
- Fire Retardant: Certain wood shake shingles are pressure treated to meet the National Fire Safety Standards. By using these shingles, your roof and home could be spared extensive damage in the tragic case of a house fire.

A Properly Installed Wood Shake Project by CLC Roofing
There are some cons to using Wood Shake Shingles that all customers should consider. Below are the two main drawbacks:
- Installation Cost: Proper installation of wood shakes takes skill and time. It is important to use a skilled roofer that will do an appropriate job and not a fly by night roofer looking to make a quick sale. CLC Roofing’s long standing reputation and list of happy consumers testifies to their ability to help you with your wood shake roofing project.
- Maintenance: As with anything worth having, a small amount of maintenance can go a long way. Wood shake shingles can be prone to wood rot, mold and insects. Regular roof checks can often catch these problems before they become larger ones. Remember that your roof is a large investment for you home, it shouldn’t be ignored.
CLC Roofing knows that a happy customer is an informed customer. If you have any questions about wood shake shingles or desire a free roof evaluation, call CLC today at 1-800-810-2510.

Most people love the pitter patter of rain on a tin roof, but the sound of the rain isn’t the only reason to consider a metal roof for your home. CLC Roofing is experienced in installing many types of metal roofing, and the benefits of metal roofing are something that all educated consumers should consider. Below are some of the reasons that customers choose metal roofs over traditional shingles.
- Durability: Metal Roofs are long lasting, fire proof and designed to withstand high winds. In the DFW metroplex, high winds are a given, and as such, many of our customers are benefiting from metal roofs. In addition, metal roofs eliminate the homeowners chance of leaks and on going roof repairs.
- Energy Efficient/ Environmentally Friendly: Metal roofs reflect the sun and block heat from entering your attic. Homeowners benefit from 20-40% in lower energy costs. Furthermore, many manufacturers are now using recyclable material which benefits the environment.
- Appearance: Metal roofs can resemble traditional shingles or tiles as well as the typical standing seam roof (an upturned edge of metal that connects the piece to adjacent pieces). The roofs come in a variety of colors and styles allowing the consumer many choices when making their roofing decision.
- Cost: The initial cost of a metal roof is higher than a traditional shingle roof; however, the long term benefits including low maintenance and lower energy costs make a metal roof something that all customers should consider when deciding on a roof for their home.
CLC Roofing wants to educate you on the best roofing solutions for your home as well as guide you in your roofing decision. Not sure if a metal roof is right for your home? Contact us at 1-800-810-2521 to schedule a free roof check and analysis today!

Here is the second part on our series of questions to ask a contractor before hiring them. CLC Roofing feels that an informed customer is a happy customer, and we strive to make your life easier when it comes to hiring any type of contractor.
6. Will you itemize the bid? An itemized bid helps you know exactly what you are paying for and allows you to make a more informed decision on the project at hand.
7. Who are your main suppliers? Like references, suppliers can be invaluable in telling you the type of person your contractor is. Does he pay invoices on time? Does the supplier know of any past issues with customers or delivery? Don’t be afraid to ask your contractor for supplier references.
8. Can I see a portfolio of your work? Most contractors will have a portfolio or blog on their website. Be sure you know how to access it or ask for pictures if necessary. A picture is worth a thousand words and when it comes to whether or not, the contractor did a quality job, a picture can give you some reliable feedback.
9. Who is the job supervisor? Find out who will be supervising your job. Will there be a foreman? Ask to meet the person ahead of time so that you can gauge your comfort level with them and ensure that everyone is on the same page with the project.
10. What is the timeframe for the project? Find out when they plan to start work or if getting supplies might delay anything Ask how long the project will last. Be sure to ask if weather will cause any delays. Nothing is more frustrating than a half completed project in your home because of delays that you didn’t anticipate.

An important aspect of any home roofing system is the amount and type of insulation in your attic. Even the best shingles can still absorb and retain heat that will seep into your home if you don’t have proper insulation. Insulation comes in many varieties from a fiberglass mat to loose fill that can be blown in the attic. Often homeowners recognize it by the “pink” stuff that gets all over their items stored in the attic.
Many homeowners mistakenly believe that the amount of insulation is the only factor in reducing their energy bills, but even if you have an attic full of insulation, if it isn’t efficient, the attic temperatures will still soar as will your energy bills. It is very important that your roofing system is evaluated as a whole by a roofing professional to determine the right insulation for your roofing needs.
CLC Roofing partners with Owens Corning when it comes to insulation and energy efficient roofing materials. Their long time partnership allows CLC to not only offer the best quality in insulation products but an extended warranty on many of the materials that Owens Corning offers.
Most importantly, CLC Roofing understand the needs for an energy efficient home and how it helps the homeowner enjoy his home more throughly. Contact CLC Roofing today for more information on making your home energy efficient and a free roof and attic check. CLC Roofing 1-800-810-2521

If you are considering putting your home on the market, don’t underestimate the importance of having your roof inspected. A quality roof in good shape can be an added bonus to your home’s value.
If your roof is in need of repair, it can create several different issues with selling. A solid roof communicates the seller’s dedication to regular home maintenance and eases the buyer’s minds that the home is well maintained. When the roof is in disrepair, the buyer might become concerned that there are hidden issues not easily found via inspection.
For instance, if there is evidence of water damage from a poorly maintained roof, the buyer could become fearful of mold and pull out of the sale. In addition, poor insulation leads to high energy bills which can be another cause for the buyer to walk. Finally, the roof might need to be replaced. It would be difficult to entice a buyer to purchase a home and then turn around and spend the additional money on a new roof.
The best solution? Have your roof inspected and repaired or replaced before placing your home on the market. Of all the improvements that you make, a new roof signifies to the buyer that you, as a homeowner, took your investment seriously, and that they are buying a home that will continue to be a good investment for them.
CLC Roofing is here to help with your roofing needs prior to your home sale.
